Cape Coral, FL -- The Chrome Divas will roar into town to raise money for a good cause this weekend.
On Sunday, members and supporters of the all-female motorcycle club will make their way to St. James City where the Ragged Ass Saloon will serve as the last stop for a charitable Bike Poker Run. All proceeds from the run will benefit a memorial fund in the name of Rita “Trixi” Reinagel.
“Trixi and her husband, Dave, enjoyed the life they had planned together,” said Diva president Donta Morris. “She passed away on May 21 of this year and was not only a wife, mother and grandmother, but she was a true friend to everyone who knew her.
“She was taken from us after suffering through three major operations that were considered necessary so that she could have the knee surgery that would have allowed her to once again ride her motorcycle with her husband and friends,” she continued. “We would like to thank everyone who will support this fund-raiser in advance.”
The event will take place rain or shine with registration beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the Fort Myers Harley Davidson shop. The last bike to roll out will be at 11 a.m. and the last bike in at the Ragged Ass will arrive at 2:30 p.m. The winner of the poker run will be announced promptly at 3 p.m.
All are welcome and encouraged to participate. The cost will be $15 per rider and an additional $10 per passenger. In addition to a chance to win a cash prize, the entry fee also includes a free lunch at the end of the ride.
Festivities at the Ragged Ass can be enjoyed by non-poker run participates as the event will be open to the public. Attendees can participate in several auctions, raffles and 50/50s, dine on award-winning pizza and other Ragged Ass menu favorites, and enjoy live music provided by local performers throughout the afternoon and evening.
The Chrome Divas of Cape Coral/Fort Myers has many members throughout Lee County and from Pine Island.
“We are not a ‘motorcycle club’ but we are divas that make a difference,” said Morris. “Whether you have ridden for years as a passenger or as a rider, just got your first motorcycle or simply share a passion for the open road, we want you and encourage any interested ladies to join us.”
The Chrome Divas, the fastest growing ladies motorcycle group in the country, was founded in Tallahassee in 2002. In February 2004, a Chrome Divas chapter was established in Lee County and the group has since dedicated itself to raising money for several charities. The group rides each year during the annual “Bikers for Babies” and poker runs to benefit other national and local organizations.
While based on the mainland, the Divas have maintained a high profile on Pine Island. Along with numerous poker run fund-raisers, the group participates in annual events including the Pine Island July Fourth Parade and Breast Fest.
